One of the many advantages of the Hygie Box is that it doesn’t lock cat owners into using just one type of litter. Cattus understands that every cat has its own quirks and every cat owner has their own routine, which is why the Hygie Box is so versatile.

Using Wood Pellets

The Hygie Box Easy and Hygie Box Kim work in a simple and efficient way with wood pellets. As the pellets absorb urine and moisture from feces, they break down into damp sawdust. Thanks to gravity and cats’ natural habit of burying their waste, this sawdust passes through the sieve and falls into the tray. The sieve, which remains covered with clean, dry pellets, ensures an odor-free environment.

In addition, when cats dig small holes to do their business, most of the urine flows directly into the tray without being absorbed by the pellets, making the Hygie Box even more economical.

Keeping the tray clean is essential for the well-being of both cats and their owners. Cattus recommends removing the urine-soaked sawdust at a maximum interval of four days. Although the HB Easy and HB Kim can hold it for longer, urine decomposition produces ammonia, whose odor becomes unpleasant, just like with any other accumulated litter. When this ammonia smell becomes too strong, the clean pellets on the sieve may absorb the odor due to their porosity. In these cases, place the dry pellets under direct sunlight for about three hours; since ammonia is highly volatile and the pellets are porous, heat will help eliminate the odor, allowing the pellets to be used for longer. Let’s save money and reduce negative environmental impact.

Using Clumping Litters

The Hygie Box Mic offers a highly efficient solution for cat owners who use plant-based clumping litters. When the contents of the tray are poured onto the sieve, the clumps are retained, making them easy to remove.

The fine mesh of the sieve holds small clumps and feces fragments, significantly reducing odor and allowing the litter to last much longer.

Not all biodegradable litters form clumps that dissolve in water, so be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions and choose options that allow disposal in the toilet nature will thank you. Consider that in Brazil alone there are around 33 million cats, and approximately 70% of them use some type of cat litter, representing an enormous volume of waste disposed of daily. Cattus has done its part: the clumps from Yellow and Yellow ONE litters dissolve in water. Even so, if the clumps are very hard and dry, do not flush immediately. Wait a few minutes for them to soften to avoid the risk of clogging. But remember, if the litter you use does not have this water-soluble property, dispose of it in the regular trash and consider switching brands your planet will thank you.

Use with Mineral Litters

The Hygie Box Mic and the Hygie Box Multi Fit offer a highly efficient solution for cat owners who use mineral litters mixed with a good-quality biodegradable litter or with BioBloc, the additive for mineral litters developed by Cattus.

By adding biodegradable litter or BioBloc to mineral litters, clumps begin to form, and when the contents of the tray are poured onto the sieve, these clumps are retained, making removal much easier.

The fine mesh of the sieve retains even small clumps and feces fragments, significantly reducing odor and extending the lifespan of the litter.
